Chesty
This wood is actually American Chestnut. It is a near extinct specie due to a fugus attack started in 1906.  During the next 40 years the eastern US lost nearly 4 Billion American Chestnut trees and only  a few groves exist today.  One of the good aspects is that they used as much of the dead trees as they could.  They used it in barns, furniture, houses, and even as railroad ties.  Today many of the old barns which are close to 100 years old are being torn down and recycled.  I got the wood from a man that salvages lumber like that and recycles it .  Due to it age and use it has a patina that makes it unique.  If you look closely to the neck and front body of this horse you can see the rich patina.  The hair that I use come into North America from Mongolia for the purpose of making violin bowes. The hair is very coarse and strong.  I get the eyes from a taxidermy supply house and they are made especially for horses.  The glue is TitebondII a premium wood glue and I use about a half gallon for each rocker/horse combination.  The saddles are made for miniature horses and are long wearing as are most good saddles.

This horse was completed in June of 2009 and resides in Virginia     SOLD
