Black Cherry (Prunus serotina)
A great piece of work if I must say so myself. And I do. I finally finished him in February of 2005. He has light brown eyes and comes in at 80 pounds. Even though this horse is constructed entirely of black cherry I chose the pieces from mostly sapwood that would give it the lighter cherry look as opposed to the red cherry look. The background for this picture is actually a snapshot of what the real wood looks like. Different, very different. As you can see from the picture of the horse it has a great variety of colors in it. When they build most things out of cherry or any other wood for that matter they will stain the wood to get a consistent coloring pattern throughout. How boring. I choose the pieces with the greatest variety in them and how beautiful they really can be. Maybe a lesson in tolerance or understanding here. |
