Pheahha
Wyndott Indian word for "CHILD"
This is a good example of a Black Cherry (Prunus serotina). Not surprising most little girls love this horse. Maybe it's the color of the wood or the hair color or the eye color or maybe they just have good taste. Kids adore these horses for being a horse and that's all you hear from kids when they come up to see us at an Art Show. Adults on the other hand will go "WOW" and then say"that's just beautiful". All in the perspective I guess. Out of the 50+ I've made so far 10 of them have been out of Cherry. There has not been one that was anything short of outstanding. Part of it has to do with the tree itself. Every cherry tree has white sapwood and darker red brown heartwood. That contrast makes it look idfferent. Add to that mix alot of knots and scars as well as the rays and graining of the wood and you come up with some very, very pretty wood. What a lot of people do not realize is that cherry wood starts out a pinkish brown and within three or four years it will transition to a beautiful deep red. This transitioning can be accelerated by bright sunshine.
